Community Pharmacy Practice Course – Level 3
“From Role Play to Artificial Intelligence: Innovating Community Pharmacy
Education”
Third-year pharmacy students at Mansoura National University participated in two innovative
activities within the Community Pharmacy Practice course, designed to enhance both
professional skills and digital readiness.
1. Applied Professional Training through Role Play: A total of 247 students recorded realistic
pharmacist–patient interaction videos, simulating real-life community pharmacy scenarios.
This activity enhanced students’ competencies in effective communication, medical history
taking, therapeutic decision-making, patient counseling, and modern dispensing through
electronic stock systems.
2. Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pharmacy
Practice: Students worked in teams to design AI-based
solutions addressing real challenges in community
pharmacies. Among the highlighted projects were a smart
assistant for drug–drug interaction detection and an OCR-
powered tool for identifying prescription errors in
handwritten notes. The AI projects required students to
combine business model design with technical
demonstrations, sharpening their skills in innovation,
entrepreneurship, and teamwork while linking theory to
real-world healthcare applications.
