Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry III Course – Level 2
“AI-based Synthetic Design and Virtual Screening of Some Organic
Compounds”

In the “Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry III” course, students participated in an advanced activity
focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to design organic compounds and predict their
biological activity. The activity introduced students to specialized platforms such as Reaxys and
Swiss target prediction, guiding them to select optimal synthetic approaches and forecast bioactivity
profiles. Students were also instructed in professional-level scientific reporting to sharpen their
research presentation skills.

The activity yielded several educational benefits as enabling students to develop an advanced
understanding of chemical structures and bonding while reinforcing their ability to apply theoretical
knowledge in pharmaceutical research and development. By using AI tools, students efficiently
predicted the biological activity of test compounds and optimized synthetic pathways, saving both
time and resources. The activity also enhanced their research skills, critical thinking, collaboration,
communication, and creativity in preparing professional research proposals.
