Mathematics and Biostatistics Course – Level 1

“Beyond the Spreadsheet: elevating Biostatistics to Research
                                                       Excellence”

In line with the vision of the university
and the Faculty of Pharmacy to

               modernize student activities in

               accordance with labor market needs

               and contemporary challenges and

               supervision of the Clinical Pharmacy
               Department, the Mathematics and
               Biostatistics course was restructured to
               introduce a pioneering educational
               model for first-year students,
implemented for the first time at the
               national level across Egyptian
               universities.

               The updated course placed strong
               emphasis on interpreting data and
               reading published research results to
               support evidence-based decision-
               making. A practical, hands-on learning
               component was added, enabling
               students to work with statistical
software tools such as MS Excel,
               GraphPad Prism, SPSS, and Jamovi.

Students conducted real-world research projects, analyzed their own data sets statistically, and
thereby integrated theoretical knowledge with practical application. This initiative resulted in the
production of 27 original student-led research studies, each written as a structured scientific paper
with evidence-based recommendations. The students also presented their findings through
professional presentations during a scientific day at the faculty.

The course significantly enhanced students’ abilities to analyze clinical and scientific research data,
strengthening their capacity to evaluate therapeutic effectiveness and provide evidence-based patient
counseling. Additionally, it introduced students to modern data analysis tools, fostered critical
thinking, and promoted innovation and adaptability—key attributes for future pharmacists facing
evolving healthcare demands and contributing to research excellence and improved patient care.
