Enhancing Student Skills Through Community Pharmacy Projects

In line with its vision to strengthen the applied skills of pharmacy students and connect educational
outcomes with the pharmaceutical industry, and under the patronage of Prof. Cherif Khater,
University President, the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Ahmed El-Sheakh, Director of Pharm D
(Clinical Pharmacy) Program, and the supervision of Dr. Ghada Al-Imam, Dr. Walaa Ibrahim,
and Dr. Amira Mohsen, with the participation of Dr. Narweed Tariq, Dr. Iman Mustafa, Dr.
Mirna Tariq, and Dr. Nada Ibrahim, members of the faculty’s academic team, the faculty
organized a distinctive student activity held on Wednesday, May 14, designed to combine both
theoretical and practical dimensions of pharmacy education in a project-based format.

The theoretical component of the activity involved field interviews conducted by students with
practicing community pharmacists. These interviews focused on identifying the most common
localized skin diseases and the corresponding treatments frequently used in pharmacy practice.
The findings were compiled into a documentary video, showcasing the students’ growing
awareness of real-world pharmaceutical practices and their application in the drug market. The
practical component engaged students in hands-on pharmaceutical preparation, where they
developed topical formulations within the laboratory. To complement this scientific exercise,
students also designed a brand identity for their products, including a trade name and packaging
design. Each team produced a professional marketing video, simulating the stages of real-life
pharmaceutical product promotion and market launch.

This multifaceted activity served as a model of interactive education, highlighting students’
competencies in communication, planning, innovation, and teamwork. It also embodied the
principles of project-based learning, a modern educational approach that emphasizes practical
application and problem-solving. By bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world
pharmaceutical practice, the initiative reflects current global trends in pharmacy education,
preparing graduates to meet the dynamic needs of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries
               with skill, creativity, and professionalism.
