Biochemistry II course – Level 2
(Metabolic Pathway Detective)
“AI-Integrated Investigation of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) with
Progressive Case Updates & In-Lab Training”
As part of the Biochemistry curriculum, students engaged in a dynamic project designed to bridge
complex scientific content with creativity and real-world relevance. This activity provided an
opportunity for students to explore inborn errors of metabolism related to carbohydrates, proteins,
or lipids, and present their findings through visually engaging formats, such as infographics or
short videos.
This activity aimed to make
biochemistry more engaging by having
students research metabolic diseases
before selecting a topic. Through this
process, they explored the biochemical
basis of disorders including enzymes,
pathways, symptoms, diagnosis, and
treatments. While enhancing their
scientific literacy and communication
skills. The project emphasized modern
therapies such as dietary changes,
enzyme replacement, and AI-assisted
precision medicine. In addition to
developing research, analysis, and
critical thinking skills, students were
encouraged to use AI-based tools to
design their educational materials
aligning with the course’s objective to
integrate advanced technologies in the
learning process.
Learning Objectives and Educational Value:
• Scientific Research: Students practiced sourcing, analyzing, and synthesizing scientific
data.
• Creative Communication: Findings were presented in engaging, simplified formats to
ensure clarity and accessibility.
• Technology Integration: Use of AI tools supported innovation in scientific presentation.
