Pharmacognosy 1 Course (Practical Activity)- Level 1
“Herbal Extract to Capsule: Designing Safe, Effective, and Market-Ready
Herbal Medicines”
The Faculty of Pharmacy, Mansoura National University, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof.
Ahmed El-Sheakh, Director of the Pharm D (Clinical Pharmacy) Program, and the guidance of
the Pharmacognosy Department teaching team, had successfully carried out an innovative
hands-on activity for Level 1 students in the Pharmacognosy-1 (PG 202) course during the
2024/2025 academic year.
The project’s aim was to enhance students’ scientific creativity, teamwork, and practical skills
by transforming medicinal plants into complete herbal pharmaceutical products — from extraction
to market-ready packaging. This project bridged theoretical pharmacognosy knowledge with
practical pharmaceutical manufacturing skills, preparing students for future work in herbal
product development and quality assurance.
It provided:
• Hands-on experience in plant extraction and capsule formulation.
• Awareness of dosage form design,
labeling, and marketing strategies.
• Skills in scientific communication
through reports and video presentations.
• A deeper appreciation for herbal
medicines as accessible, safe treatment
options.
